iClass: iPad Music Lesson

Music Hands have recently enhanced the music curriculum at Whitburn Village Primary and East Boldon Junior School with our iBand project. Students took part in one of our newest workshops called ‘Cover Song’. In this project we analyse, evaluate then recreate a popular song, using digital instruments. An engaging, fun and contemporary approach to music education can be found in Garageband’s touch software.

The song we chose to recreate is Ed Sheeran’s famous ‘Thinking Out Loud’. These projects spanned 6 sessions and culminated in a final performance which you can view below. The iBand is comprised of a software guitar, bass, string instruments, keyboards and piano. Pupils accompany a drum backing track and live choir.

“My favourite performance was by East Boldon Junior. In the madness of preparing 30 software instruments I set the wrong scale for the guitar solo at Whitburn primary. This created an atonal solo. A bit too jazz even for me. Lesson learnt.”
